Directed by Franco Zeffirelli, Jesus of Nazareth is one of finest movies I have watched till date, on the life of Jesus.
This 1977 movie features some of the greatest actors in
English cinema including Laurence Olivier, James Mason, Anthony Quinn, Olivia
Hussey, Christopher Plummer, Anne Bancroft, Peter Ustinov, Donald Pleasance, Ernest
Borgnine, Claudia Cardinale, Rod Steiger and Robert Powell (as Jesus).
Filmed in Morocco
and Tunisia ,
you get to visualize the culture as close as possible to that recorded in the
scriptures. The story begins with the birth of Jesus, and takes you through his
life, ministry, crucifixion and resurrection. The films cinematography is realistic,
and the composition of music by Maurice Jarre (award winner for the scores in Lawrence
of Arabia, Doctor Zhivago and A Passage to India) adds emotion and
realism to every scene.
Even though there might be some narrative deviations from
the gospels, Jesus of Nazareth is
certainly the most accurate depiction of the life of Jesus, and as a family,
we've watched this movie about twenty five times.
If you are a follower of Jesus (even if you aren't) you will
be touched by his character and compassion, and this movie will surely move you!
