Just the other day I was sharing some tips with my kids, on
why they should sign up and start using LinkedIn.
Here is what I told them.

Hey kids, you may not be in university yet, but you soon
will be. Here are four reasons why you should sign up on LinkedIn now.
1) I use LinkedIn mainly for this reason. You and I can
write things about ourselves, but it is the only social network where others
can write a line or two (recommendations)
about your skills, character and
experience, and nothing is more important than someone else showcasing you.
2) Soon you will be
looking for a job. And LinkedIn has the right tools to help you be
successful at that. Besides business decision makers, most recruiters worth their salt, search for manpower
on LinkedIn.
3) LinkedIn is updated by users themselves, so if you want
to research someone's professional background, chances are you will be reading
the most accurate information. For
this reason I recommend LinkedIn over other third-party updated lists.
4) Soon your priorities in life will change and you'll
be searching for more meaningful social
interactions than the silly stuff that happens in your present social
network. In other words, LinkedIn is for grown-ups!
